West Vancouver Yacht Club offers a number of Keelboat Sailing Programs designed to help you build confidence and skill on the water. Find out more about these exciting programs.

All courses can be scheduled to fit your schedule. All we require is 3 participants and are subject to the availability of our instructors and boats.

Discover Keelboating

This program offers you a chance to try sailing on the scenic waters of Howe Sound. "Discover Keelboating" is semi-private course, meaning that you will have a maximun of two other people in you group. This course is ideal for families or couples who have always dreamed of spending more time on the water.

You will spend a total of 10 hours with a Canadian Yachting association certified instructor over two consecutive Sundays.

The course hours are from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Fee: non-member $120.00 member $100.00

CYA Basic Cruising Standard

Basic Cruising covers the skills required to cruise safely by day in local waters as either skipper or crew of a sailing cruiser of 20-30 feet, in moderate wind and sea conditions. This course is great way to get into sailing if you are planning to buy a small keelboat or spend time sailing one.

All Sessions run for 3 weeks on:

Thursday evenings from 5:30 - 8:30pm,

and Saturdays from 9:00am - 5:00pm.

Basic Cruising Registration

Learn to Race

In this course you will race a series of races in a J-22 with an experienced CYA certified instructor. This is an excellent chance to develop your understanding of sailboat racing in a positive and safe environment. Practices will be on Mondays and Racing will be on Wednesdays.

Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 - 8:30 pm

Spring A	May 3, 5, 10, 12, 17. 19. 25. 27
Spring B	May 31, June 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23
Fall A	August 30, Sept. 1, 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available by request. We will do our absolute best to arrange lesson times at your convenience. This is an effective way to improve your skills, or simply spend more time on the water.
