The West Vancouver Yacht Club offer a number of keelboat programs designed to help you build confidence and kill on the water. Whether you're interested in learning learning the basics, developing your cruising skills, learning to race or wanting to enjoy sailing without the hassle of owning your own boat, WVYC's got the program for you! All courses are taught by CYA certified instructors, have flexible timelines and require only a minimum of 3 students per session so grab your friends and family and come enjoy everything the North Shore and WVYC yachting lifestyle has to offer!
Introduction to KeelboatingThis course offers 10 hours of sailing instruction designed for those with little or no prior sailing experience. Ideal for couples or families wanting to get a taste of the yachting lifestyle, Introduction to Keelboating will take you on a hands-on tour of Howe Sound and allow participants to experience the many thrills sailing has to offer. The course is run over two sundays for a maximum of 4 students per session and is designed to maximize on-water and hands-on time.
Fee: non-members and members $199.00 CYA Basic CruisingBasic Cruising covers the skills required to cruise safely by day in local waters as either skipper or crew of a sailing cruiser of 20-30 feet, in moderate wind and sea conditions. This course is great way to get into sailing if you are planning to buy a small keelboat, spend time aboard one or join the J22 Club. Sessions run Monday to Friday but can take place over two weekend or other format. Please contact the Sailing Director to make schedule changes. There is a maximum of 4 students per session. Emphasis is placed on technical skills and sailing rather than theory during the course to maximize on-water time and sailing experience. Theory will be reviewed in class but it is ultimately up to the students to acquire the theoretical knowledge. A written exam will be written at the candidate's leisure after the completion of the course and will cover the theory components of the CYA Basic Cruising standard as well as the requirements for the Canadian Coast Guard accredited Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC exam only if student is not already accredited).

Learn to RaceIn this course you will race a series of races in a J22 with an experienced CYA certified instructor. This is an excellent change to develop your understanding of sailboat racing in a positive and safe environment. Practices will be on Mondays and Racing will be on Wednesdays both from 5:30-8:30pm. The course runs over 4 weekends. If you miss a date simply reschedule with the Sailing Director.
